Client-Side Tracking

Client-side tracking is the simplest way to understand how people interact with your website. After you add a small line of code to your site, an invisible helper runs in your visitor's browser and quietly records visit details, page views, and actions like clicking links or signing up. This helper is extremely lightweight and has no noticeable impact on your site's speed, so your pages continue to load fast while you gain a clear picture of your audience.

You can think of it like a friendly observer sitting in the room while customers browse your website. It notes which page they entered on, what they clicked next, and how they moved around — then sends that information securely to your EazyData dashboard. The observer is smart enough to recognize returning visitors using a private, anonymous identifier (no personal data), and it starts a new "session" when someone begins a fresh browsing visit.

Because the tracking happens in the browser, you get instant updates. When a visitor lands on a page, the visit appears in your analytics within moments. You also benefit from accurate behavior tracking on single-page apps and modern frameworks: navigation that changes the URL without a full page reload is detected, so page views are counted correctly.

How client-side tracking works

When a visitor arrives on your site, the EazyData script checks that everything is in the right place: the website ID is valid, the domain matches, and the visitor is not on a local testing environment. If all looks good, it creates or reuses two anonymous IDs: one for the visitor and one for their current session. These are saved in secure cookies so the visitor can be recognized across pages while remaining anonymous.

The script then records the first page view of the session. As the visitor navigates to different pages, it automatically logs each new view — even if your site uses client-side routing. If the person clicks a link that takes them to another website, the script notices that too and records it as an external link click. Throughout the visit, the script tracks helpful context like the referrer (where they came from) and device details (for example, desktop or mobile) to give you meaningful insights without collecting personal information.

On top of automatic page views, you can record important moments that matter to your business — like signups, purchases, downloads, or form submissions. These are called "events." You simply call a small function on your site when the action happens, and it gets recorded in EazyData alongside the session, so you can see which actions happened during a visit and how they relate to the traffic source that brought the visitor.

What data is collected and why

EazyData focuses on the essentials: which pages were viewed, in what order, how people arrived on your site, and which actions they completed. We include helpful technical context like device type and browser to improve your reporting and troubleshooting, but we do not collect personal details by default. Each visitor is represented by a random identifier, which means the analytics remain privacy-friendly and compliant while still giving you high-quality insights.

This combination of page views, events, referrer information, and basic device context lets you answer practical questions: Which landing pages keep people engaged? Which campaigns bring visitors who actually sign up? Are most of my buyers on desktop or mobile? You get the full journey at a glance, from entry to conversion.

Installing and verifying the script

Set up takes less than a minute. In your EazyData dashboard, open your website settings and copy the tracking code snippet. Paste it into your site's HTML inside the <head> section. This ensures the helper is available as soon as a page starts loading and can capture the initial page view reliably.

After you add the snippet, visit your website and then open the EazyData dashboard. Within a short time, you should see your visit appear. Navigate between a few pages to confirm page views are recorded. If your site uses a framework with client-side routing, try clicking through different routes — your analytics should update without requiring full page reloads.

If you ever need to pause measurement on your own device during testing, you can disable tracking from your browser for that session. You can also exclude your own visits entirely from analytics, so your reports reflect only real visitors.

Privacy, consent, and control

We designed client-side tracking to be respectful by default. IDs are random, not personal. The information that is sent is strictly limited to what’s necessary to understand behavior and performance. If your legal or regional requirements call for consent prompts, you can easily initialize the script after consent is given. Visitors who prefer not to be tracked can opt out, and your own team’s visits can be filtered to keep your metrics clean.

Because the helper runs in the browser, you always see fresh, real-time activity. For many websites, this is all that’s needed to measure growth and optimize content. If you later decide to track revenue or guarantee attribution even when scripts are blocked, you can add server-side tracking alongside this for a complete picture.
